Setting Out Engineer – Structural Steel Projects

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Setting Out Engineer to join KH Engineering’s site team in the Dublin region. The role involves accurately setting out and installing structural steel for industrial, commercial and data‑centre projects, working closely with site management, design and erection crews.

Key responsibilities

• Set out structural steelwork according to approved drawings and project specifications.
• Verify foundations, holding‑down bolts and gridlines before steel erection.
• Carry out dimensional surveys and ensure installation tolerances are met.
• Produce and maintain accurate setting‑out records.
• Liaise with project managers, site supervisors and steel erectors throughout the installation process.
• Identify and report any discrepancies between site conditions and design drawings.
• Assist with quality inspections and verification of completed works.
• Ensure surveying equipment is calibrated and maintained.
• Work closely with the design team to resolve site issues efficiently.
• Promote high standards of health, safety and quality on site.

Required profile

• Proven experience setting out structural steel projects.
• Strong understanding of structural steel drawings and specifications.
• Competent using Leica, Trimble or similar surveying equipment.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and coordinate site works.
• Excellent attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
• Strong communication and organisational abilities.
• Full driving licence and Safe Pass/CSR Card.
• Desirable: experience on large industrial, commercial or data‑centre projects, knowledge of installation tolerances, AutoCAD and surveying software proficiency, First Aid and Manual Handling certification.
