Software Engineer 3, Query Execution

About the role

Join MongoDB’s Server Query team to design and build the core of a distributed, open‑source query engine. You will work on the MongoDB Query Language, from parsing and optimization through plan selection and execution, impacting transactional, time‑series and analytical workloads.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance the functionality of MongoDB’s query engine.
• Design, implement, test and support new features that improve query performance, robustness and language capabilities.
• Develop diagnostics for query performance issues and integrate them with related MongoDB products.
• Collaborate with engineers across client drivers, cloud services, enterprise tools and other teams to ensure seamless feature integration.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience in data‑intensive environments.
• Hands‑on experience building industrial‑strength software.
• Strong computer‑science fundamentals in data structures, algorithms and software design/architecture.
• Experience working with large code bases.
• B.Sc in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
• Interest in database query engine theory and practice; advanced degrees are a plus.
