Software Engineer II

About the role

Tripadvisor is seeking an experienced back‑end Software Engineer II to join the Hotels Platform team. You will help build and maintain high‑performance microservices that power Tripadvisor’s hotel pages for hundreds of millions of travelers each month.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and deploy code changes that support strategic and engineering initiatives.
• Work across the full service stack, from clean microservice APIs to efficient database queries and ETL pipelines.
• Own projects end‑to‑end, from design and estimation through production verification and follow‑up tasks.
• Provide code reviews ensuring adherence to coding standards, best practices, and audit requirements.
• Support operations through proactive monitoring, data‑quality checks, and incident‑response protocols.
• Collaborate with peers to foster a fast‑paced, collaborative engineering culture.

Required profile

• 3+ years of full‑lifecycle software development experience on large‑scale web applications or services.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, object‑oriented design, and web‑service architectures.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to take end‑to‑end ownership of projects and work both independently and collaboratively.

Required skills

• Java (preferred) or Kotlin.
• Relational databases and data‑warehouse technologies such as Snowflake, BigQuery, or Hadoop.
• Design and implementation of microservice APIs and ETL processes.
• Use of AI tools to improve efficiency, quality, and decision‑making.
