About the role
The Sports Activities & VR Manager leads the delivery of safe, engaging, and high‑quality experiences across Explorium’s indoor climbing, virtual reality and adventure zones. Reporting to senior management, the role combines operational oversight with people leadership to ensure visitors enjoy a memorable and secure visit.
Key responsibilities
- Act as the responsible manager on duty for the Sports & VR floor, overseeing opening and closing procedures and completing all safety, cleanliness and operational checklists.
- Maintain the highest standards of visitor experience, safety and presentation across all activities, and serve as the senior point of contact for visitor concerns, complaints, incidents or emergencies.
- Ensure climbing walls, VR systems and adventure activities are safe, operational and properly supervised, liaising with Maintenance and Safety teams on defects and preventative maintenance.
- Provide leadership, coaching and performance management to Activities Team Leads and front‑line staff, embedding Explorium’s values and service standards.
- Oversee roster creation, attendance monitoring, break management and staff deployment to guarantee appropriate coverage and competence at all times.
- Deliver daily operational briefings, report incidents and performance metrics to senior management, and act as Fire Manager when required.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety policies, risk assessments and safe work systems, taking responsibility for the wellbeing of visitors and staff in the Sports Activities area.
Required profile
- Proven experience in leading teams within a sports, adventure or visitor‑attraction environment.
- Strong focus on health, safety and risk management.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving abilities, with the capacity to handle visitor concerns and emergencies.
- Ability to mentor and develop staff, manage performance and support HR processes.
- Organised, detail‑oriented and capable of managing rosters, attendance and operational reporting.
