Staff Nurse – End of Life/Palliative Care

About the role

The NHS Ayrshire & Arran is recruiting two permanent Staff Nurses for the 16‑bed End of Life/Hospital Based Palliative Care unit on McMillan Ward, Biggart Hospital. You will join a multidisciplinary team delivering compassionate, individualized care to patients with complex palliative needs.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality nursing care to patients in a palliative and end‑of‑life setting.
• Collaborate with doctors, allied health professionals and families to develop and implement care plans.
• Administer medications, monitor patient conditions, and respond to urgent clinical situations.
• Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with NHS policies.
• Participate in night shifts and flexible roster patterns as required.

Required profile

• Qualified first‑level registered nurse (NMC registration).
• Minimum 6 months post‑registration experience, or a new registrant awaiting NMC registration.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and time‑management abilities.
• Commitment to delivering safe, caring and respectful care.

Required skills

• Clinical assessment in palliative care.
• Medication administration and monitoring.
• Documentation and record‑keeping.
