Staff Nurse Endoscopy

About the role

The Endoscopy Unit at UPMC Kildare Hospital is seeking a dedicated Staff Nurse to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred care. You will work closely with anaesthetists, consultants and the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and efficient endoscopic procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and maintain endoscopy equipment including monitors, Dinamaps, suction apparatus, diathermy machines, light sources and photographic printers.
• Update the Endoscopy register, verify patient details in the PIMS system and ensure accurate documentation for each procedure.
• Monitor supplies, handle stock management at ward level and maintain adequate inventory.
• Attach patients to monitoring equipment, assist with drug preparation, and adhere to the “time out” safety policy.
• Support anaesthetists and consultants during biopsies, specimen handling and airway management.
• Coordinate cleaning and processing of scopes and ensure timely transport of specimens to the laboratory.
• Record start and finish times, anaesthetist names and other procedural data in PIMS.
• Mentor new clinical and non‑clinical staff and liaise with nursing education partners.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse qualification.
• Experience working in an endoscopy or similar procedural environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
• Willingness to mentor junior staff and support a learning environment.

Required skills

• Operation of endoscopy equipment (monitors, Dinamaps, suction apparatus, diathermy machines, light sources).
• Proficiency with the PIMS clinical information system.
• Stock and inventory management in a healthcare setting.
• Medication management and adherence to safety policies.
• Specimen handling and documentation procedures.
