Staff Nurse – Theatre (Mayo University Hospital)

About the role

The Health Service Executive is recruiting Staff Nurses for the Altra Foirne Theatre at Mayo University Hospital. This full‑time, whole‑time position offers the opportunity to work within a busy peri‑operative environment, delivering high‑quality nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to patients before, during and after surgery in the theatre.
• Maintain a sterile environment and support decontamination processes.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anaesthetists and the peri‑operative team to ensure safe and efficient theatre operations.
• Document patient care accurately and adhere to HSE policies and procedures.

Required profile

• Registered nurse with current NMBI registration.
• Relevant experience in theatre or peri‑operative nursing preferred.
• Ability to work shift patterns and respond to the demands of a busy surgical department.

Required skills

• Knowledge of sterile technique and infection control.
• Competence in patient assessment and postoperative monitoring.
