Structural Engineer – Mining Infrastructure

About the role

Newmont is seeking a Structural Engineer to support the safety, reliability and long‑term integrity of its mining infrastructure at the Lihir operation in Papua New Guinea. This two‑year fixed‑term position will involve working on a diverse portfolio of remediation, maintenance and capital projects that underpin safe production and sustainable operations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and review structural designs, engineering calculations and technical plans for mining infrastructure and associated facilities.
• Conduct inspections, condition assessments and risk evaluations to identify structural issues and propose remediation solutions.
• Support the delivery of capital and infrastructure projects from concept through execution, ensuring designs meet operational requirements and industry standards.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, geology and operations to integrate structural solutions.
• Maintain documentation and provide technical guidance to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Required profile

• Qualified structural engineer with experience in mining or heavy‑industry environments.
• Strong understanding of structural design standards, calculations and risk assessment methodologies.
• Proven ability to work on both remediation and new‑construction projects.
• Effective communication skills to liaise with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
• Willingness to work onsite at the Lihir operation for the contract duration.
