Technical Advisor – Mechanical Auxiliary (HME)

About the role

The Technical Advisor – Mechanical Auxiliary (HME) provides expert technical leadership for the auxiliary mobile equipment fleet at Newmont’s Lihir gold mine. Reporting to the Mechanical Supervisor, the role focuses on improving equipment reliability, mentoring the maintenance team, and ensuring compliance with OEM and Newmont standards.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver advanced troubleshooting for CAT loaders, graders, excavators and dozers.
• Lead reliability investigations and implement long‑term corrective actions.
• Review, update and optimise SOPs, JSAs and maintenance procedures.
• Coach and mentor technicians and fitters, supporting their development.
• Assist in maintenance planning, task development and strategy reviews.
• Perform quality assurance checks on maintenance work.
• Champion FRM critical controls and promote safety leadership.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability.

Required profile

• Trade qualification in Heavy Equipment Fitting, Diesel Mechanics or equivalent.
• Extensive experience maintaining large fleets of mining auxiliary equipment.
• Proven ability to lead investigations and mentor technical staff.
• Familiarity with SAP or a comparable CMMS.

Required skills

• Maintenance of CAT loaders, graders, excavators and dozers.
• Hydraulic, electrical, powertrain and structural system troubleshooting.
• Use of SAP or other computerised maintenance management systems.
