Transport Planner & Router (6-month contract)

About the role

We are looking for a highly organised, analytical and proactive Transport Planner & Router to join our logistics team in Galway on a six‑month fixed‑term contract. Reporting to the Distribution and Logistics Operations Manager, you will design, optimise and manage daily delivery schedules across Ireland, ensuring compliance with health‑and‑safety and RSA regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, schedule and optimise daily delivery routes across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland to maximise vehicle utilisation and fuel efficiency.
• Design routes in strict accordance with RSA guidelines, monitoring tachograph data to ensure legal driving hours, mandatory breaks and driver compliance.
• Promote a safe working culture by avoiding routes that encourage speeding, driver fatigue or unsafe loading practices.
• Utilise SmartRoutes software to build, adjust and monitor live routes, ensuring data accuracy and real‑time tracking.
• Provide routing support to drivers on the road and collaborate with distribution admin staff to confirm order details, delivery windows and paperwork.
• Liaise with customers regarding delivery windows, updates and any delays, maintaining a customer‑first approach.
• Track KPIs such as on‑time delivery rates, mileage and compliance metrics and report findings to the Operations Manager.

Required profile

• Proven experience in transport planning and routing across Ireland, including both Republic and Northern Ireland networks.
• Solid working knowledge of RSA regulations, EU driver‑hours rules and tachograph compliance.
• Strong understanding of health‑and‑safety standards, vehicle weight limits and load capacities.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with SmartRoutes routing software.
• Familiarity with routing software and tachograph data analysis.
• Ability to interpret and apply RSA and legislative requirements to route planning.
