Consultant Physician – Geriatric Medicine

About the role

The Consultant Physician in Geriatric Medicine will provide specialist clinical leadership for older adult care at University Hospital Galway. This permanent, full‑time position involves direct patient management, service development and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver high‑quality inpatient and outpatient geriatric care.
• Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses and allied health professionals.
• Develop and implement service improvement initiatives and clinical pathways.
• Participate in teaching activities for junior doctors and medical students.
• Engage in research and audit projects to advance geriatric practice.
• Provide on‑call and out‑of‑hours coverage as required.

Required profile

• Medical degree and full registration with the Irish Medical Council.
• Specialist training and certification in Geriatric Medicine.
• Proven experience at consultant level in a hospital setting.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and patient‑centred care.
