About the role
The University of Galway, as part of a national centre for data science and AI, is offering nine fully funded PhD studentships for the September 2026 intake. Candidates will join a cohort‑based training programme covering foundational and translational methods, data processing, people‑centred AI and related themes.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct original research within the chosen theme.
- Participate in cohort training activities such as hackathons, seminars, and workshops.
- Engage with industry and public‑service partners through placements or collaborative projects.
- Contribute to publications and conference presentations.
Required profile
- Recent graduate (master’s or equivalent) from any listed discipline (arts & humanities, business, computer science, engineering, health sciences, life sciences, mathematics, statistics, social science or law).
- Strong academic record.
- Motivation to work in interdisciplinary data science and AI.
- Commitment to the September 2026 start.

- Annual stipend of €25,000 (tax‑free) for four years.
