Senior Pharmacist – Sports Surgery Clinic

About the role

The Senior Pharmacist will lead the pharmacy service at UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic in Dublin, ensuring patient safety and high‑quality medication management. This full‑time position combines clinical pharmacy duties with the supervision of the dispensary and contributes to continuous improvement of pharmacy operations.

Key responsibilities

• Review prescriptions, provide patient education and document clinical interventions.
• Supervise the dispensary, overseeing procurement, storage, supply and dispensing of pharmaceuticals.
• Maintain accurate records for procurement, compounding, quality control, dispensing, distribution and destruction of medicines in line with legislation.
• Support the Chief Pharmacist in formulary management, new medication entry and cost‑effective sourcing.
• Develop, update and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all pharmacy activities.
• Provide medicines information, create patient leaflets, monographs and guidelines.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to optimise medication management workflows.
• Identify and report discrepancies, incidents or service deficits and participate in audits and quality‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Registered pharmacist with extensive experience in hospital or clinical pharmacy.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a dispensary and lead a pharmacy team.
• Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical legislation, best practice standards and medication safety.
• Excellent communication skills and a commitment to UPMC core values.
