Staff Nurse – General Surgical

About the role

The Health Service Executive is seeking a qualified Staff Nurse to join the General Surgical team at Sligo University Hospital. This full‑time, permanent position involves delivering high‑quality nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to surgical patients, including pre‑operative assessment and post‑operative monitoring.
• Administer prescribed medications and intravenous therapies safely and accurately.
• Perform wound care, dressing changes, and maintain sterile technique.
• Collaborate with doctors, allied health professionals, and support staff to ensure coordinated patient care.
• Document patient observations, interventions, and outcomes in the clinical record.
• Adhere to infection control policies and health and safety standards.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse with current registration on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.
• Experience working in a surgical or acute care setting is preferred.
• Ability to work full‑time on a rotating shift pattern.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to HSE policies.
