Assistant Accountant – Legal Sector (Hybrid)

About the role

We are a leading legal firm in Dublin City Centre seeking a detail‑oriented Assistant Accountant to support two legal entities. Working hybrid (three days in the office), you will collaborate closely with the Financial Controller and the wider finance team to ensure accurate month‑end, payroll, and client‑account processes.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Financial Controller with month‑end processes, reconciliations and control activities.
• Maintain accounting ledgers for two legal entities, including monthly recharges.
• Serve as the primary finance contact for queries on the Keyhouse practice management system.
• Manage end‑to‑end payroll processing each month.
• Record and process client account transfer requests in line with strict controls.
• Review balance‑sheet items, general‑ledger postings, nominal coding, creditors and debtors.
• Perform month‑end control procedures on work‑in‑progress and outlay items.
• Provide guidance to team members on transaction processing and coding queries.
• Oversee the self‑billing portal, reviewing timesheets and reconciling data.
• Support shared finance tasks such as petty‑cash reconciliations.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in a comparable accounting role.
• Strong knowledge of financial controls, month‑end close, and reconciliations.
• Proficiency with payables, receivables, double‑entry bookkeeping, GL and nominal coding.
• Accounting Technician qualification or similar is advantageous.
• Experience in the legal or professional services sector is highly desirable.
