Chief Fire Officer

About the role

The Chief Fire Officer will lead Kildare County Council’s Fire Service, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective fire and emergency protection for the county’s rapidly growing communities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and administer the County’s fire and emergency service in line with the Fire Service Acts and related legislation.
• Develop, maintain and activate the Major Emergency Plan for Kildare.
• Provide strategic planning, policy development and change management for fire and emergency operations.
• Oversee day‑to‑day operational readiness, resource allocation and performance monitoring of fire stations and personnel.
• Collaborate with the Chief Executive and other council departments on cross‑functional initiatives and may assume additional responsibilities as directed.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in fire service leadership or senior emergency management roles.
• Demonstrated ability to manage large, multi‑disciplinary teams and budgets.
• Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation, emergency planning and public safety standards.
