Community Engagement Project Worker

About the role

The Community Engagement Project Worker will help create a safe, supportive environment around the Riverbank Open Access Day Centre in Dublin. Working closely with clients, neighbours and local businesses, the role focuses on reducing anti‑social behaviour, substance misuse and homelessness impacts.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct regular outreach patrols of the surrounding area to monitor activity and address community concerns.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety around the centre, including litter and drug‑paraphernalia removal.
• Engage directly with clients, providing respectful, non‑judgmental support and managing challenging behaviour when needed.
• Build and sustain positive relationships with internal staff, An Garda Síochána, local residents and businesses.
• Facilitate meetings and check‑ins to resolve issues such as trespassing, public injecting and loitering.
• Support the smooth operation of the Open Access Service, including client queuing and reception duties.

Required profile

• Strong communication skills with a trauma‑informed, non‑judgmental approach.
• Ability to de‑escalate challenging situations safely.
• Commitment to community safety and harm‑reduction principles.
• Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends.

• Permanent full‑time contract (37.5 hours per week).
• Salary range €36,372 – €38,586 per annum, dependent on experience.
