Lead Software Engineer – Java Microservices

About the role

Mastercard is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join its Commercial Connect API team, building a global B2B payments platform. The role is hybrid, based in Sandyford, Dublin, and involves leading the design and delivery of Java microservices.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy high-quality Java microservices that integrate with front-end frameworks and third-party applications.
• Apply 12-factor app principles to create robust, scalable, cloud-ready solutions.
• Participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle, including planning, coding, testing, code reviews, and delivery.
• Collaborate with product managers, TPMs, test engineers and other engineers to align technical and business goals.
• Ensure compliance with Mastercard engineering best practices, security, operations and architecture standards.
• Optimize performance and reliability of high-traffic, large-scale systems.

Required profile

• Extensive experience as a backend software engineer in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
• Strong background in Java development and building secure, scalable microservices.
• Advanced SQL expertise with databases such as PostgreSQL or Oracle.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and Git version control.
• Experience working in Agile teams and excellent communication skills.
