Press Tool Design Engineer

About the role

We are a well‑established precision engineering and manufacturing company looking for an experienced Design Engineer to own press tool design from concept through production. You will work closely with production, quality and estimating teams to deliver high‑quality tooling for automotive and industrial applications.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop press tools, progressive dies, jigs and fixtures using 3D CAD software.
• Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for tooling, components and assemblies.
• Collaborate with production, quality and estimating teams from concept to sign‑off.
• Interpret customer component drawings and specifications, assessing feasibility and manufacturability.
• Support new product introduction (NPI) and engineering change management processes.
• Provide technical support for tool trials, press proving and first‑off sample approvals.
• Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities across tooling and manufacturing processes.
• Maintain the engineering drawing register and document control system.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years’ hands‑on experience in press tool and die design within a metal‑stamping or sheet‑metal environment.
• Preferably experience in the automotive industry working to IATF16949 standards.
• Strong ability to evaluate feasibility, manufacturability and support NPI activities.
• Proven track record of continuous improvement in tooling processes.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3D CAD software – VISI (primary), SolidWorks, CATIA or equivalent.
• Experience creating detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for tooling.
• Knowledge of press tool design, progressive dies, jigs and fixtures.
