Python Software Engineer (Mid to Senior) – Backend Focus

About the role

We are looking for a hands‑on Python Software Engineer to join a small, agile IT team that supports a high‑traffic consumer platform. The role is primarily backend‑focused, with occasional frontend tasks assisted by AI‑driven tools. You will work remotely from Ireland or Northern Ireland, visiting the office one day per month.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services using Python‑based frameworks.
• Design and manage database schemas for reliable data storage and retrieval.
• Write efficient SQL queries and optimise database performance.
• Build background processing jobs and automated workflows.
• Create and maintain APIs that power the platform’s front‑end.
• Collaborate with marketing, operations, and senior leadership to translate business needs into technical solutions.

• Interest in data, automation, and system performance.
• Motivated to continuously learn and improve.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• SQL and relational database design.
• Experience with Python‑based web frameworks (e.g., Django, Flask).
• Familiarity with AI coding assistants such as Claude or similar tools.
