Senior Data Center Technician

About the role

Microsoft is seeking a Senior Data Center Technician to join its Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team. In this role you will apply advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting expertise to maintain and improve the performance of critical network and server equipment across a global portfolio of data centers.

Key responsibilities

• Apply advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting to quickly identify root causes of hardware issues.
• Decommission and upgrade hardware for complex changes, such as whole‑rack upgrades, following standard procedures.
• Delegate hardware installation, deployment, and replacement tasks to technicians while providing expert guidance on staging, startup, and shutdown processes.
• Coordinate downtime, communicate status to stakeholders, and ensure quality execution according to organizational standards.
• Assist technicians with challenging tasks, perform post‑execution quality checks, and verify proper grounding, labeling, and cabling.

Required profile

• Extensive experience with data‑center hardware, including servers, switches, racks, and storage devices.
• Strong understanding of network and server equipment interactions.
• Proven ability to guide and mentor junior technicians.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail in high‑availability environments.
