Senior Python Backend Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Python Backend Engineer to join our remote team developing a large‑scale, mission‑critical SaaS platform used daily by healthcare professionals across multiple countries. In this role you will focus on performance optimisation, scalable architecture and modern API development, helping to modernise legacy systems and enhance platform reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and scale robust backend applications and services using Python and Django.
• Optimise application performance and resolve scalability and system bottlenecks in a high‑volume SaaS environment.
• Refactor and modernise legacy codebases to improve maintainability, reliability and long‑term scalability.
• Build and maintain clean, scalable RESTful APIs for frontend applications and third‑party integrations.
• Conduct code reviews, implement automated testing and uphold high engineering quality standards.
• Collaborate with product, frontend and cross‑functional engineering teams on architecture and system design decisions.
• Mentor junior developers and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
• Implement security best practices, maintain technical documentation and support compliance and operational stability.

Required profile

• Strong professional experience as a backend engineer with Python and advanced knowledge of Django.
• Proven track record developing and maintaining scalable SaaS applications in fast‑paced environments.
• Solid understanding of backend architecture, API design and software scalability principles.
• Experience refactoring legacy systems and improving performance, maintainability and reliability.
• Proficiency with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies and collaborative engineering practices.
