Senior Software Development Engineer

About the role

Foxit is looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to design, build, and operate AI‑driven document systems. You will work on production services that ingest, manage, retrieve, and reason over large PDF collections using large language models and retrieval‑augmented generation techniques.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain production‑grade Python services for document and AI workflows.
• Own end‑to‑end document ingestion pipelines, ensuring reliability and scalability.
• Implement RAG and semantic search systems that combine LLMs with document retrieval.
• Develop prompting and context‑management strategies for real‑world usage.
• Build and maintain embedding pipelines and integrate vector databases.
• Optimize PDF processing, including structure extraction, metadata handling, and layout considerations.
• Create and maintain APIs for document and AI capabilities.
• Deploy services on cloud infrastructure using containers and ensure observability, performance, and cost efficiency.
• Establish monitoring and evaluation for LLM quality, latency, and cost.
• Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 4–7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Advanced Python development experience for production back‑end services.
• Strong experience with large language models, prompt engineering, and context management.
• Proven ability to design RAG and semantic search systems.
• Hands‑on experience with embeddings and vector databases.
• Deep understanding of document management systems and PDF internals.
• Experience building and operating reliable, observable production systems.
