Software Engineer, Customer Services Edge

About the role

Google is seeking a Software Engineer to work on the Customer Services Edge team, building large‑scale infrastructure that powers critical networking services for Google Cloud customers worldwide. You will design, develop, and maintain distributed systems that handle massive data volumes and ensure high availability.

Key responsibilities

• Write production‑grade code for new products and system components.
• Participate in design reviews and help select appropriate technologies.
• Review peer code to enforce style, testability, efficiency, and best practices.
• Maintain and improve documentation and educational content.
• Diagnose, debug, and resolve complex issues affecting hardware, network, or service operations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• At least 2 years of experience developing large‑scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networking technologies, or equivalent experience with compute, storage, or hardware architecture.
• 2 years of software development experience (or 1 year with an advanced degree).
• Preferred: 2 years of experience with data structures and algorithms, accessible technology development, and knowledge of Internet routing protocols (BGP, ISIS).

Required skills

• Strong understanding of BGP and ISIS routing protocols.
• Experience with router and switch functionalities.
• Proficiency in debugging complex, distributed software systems.
• Knowledge of large‑scale infrastructure, distributed systems, and networking concepts.
• Solid foundation in data structures and algorithms.
