Software Engineer III, Backend - Orchestration

About the role

We are looking for a Software Engineer III focused on backend orchestration to join a global payments infrastructure team. In this fully remote position you will design, build and maintain the core services that route millions of transactions across providers and markets, ensuring reliability, performance and resilience at scale.

Key responsibilities

• Own backend features end‑to‑end, from scoping and design through implementation, deployment and production monitoring.
• Design and implement scalable orchestration services that handle high‑volume payment flows with strong reliability guarantees.
• Develop routing logic, fallback mechanisms and workflow systems to maximise payment success across multiple providers.
• Participate in architecture discussions, propose design improvements and advocate for maintainable service boundaries.
• Monitor production systems, detect issues proactively and lead incident response when required.
• Collaborate with peers on code reviews, design sessions and technical decision‑making to evolve the platform.

Required profile

• Strong backend engineering experience with a track record of delivering production‑ready systems from ambiguous requirements.
• Solid understanding of distributed systems principles, failure modes and scalability challenges.
• Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs and backend services with a focus on reliability and observability.
• Proven ability to own systems end‑to‑end, including monitoring, deployment and post‑release operations.
• Comfortable working in a remote‑first, high‑autonomy environment.
