Staff Nurse – Residential Care Home

About the role

We are seeking a compassionate Staff Nurse to join our residential care home in Kilkenny. The role involves delivering high‑quality nursing care to elderly residents, supporting their health, wellbeing and independence within a supportive team environment.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and review the health and social care needs of new and existing residents.
• Develop, maintain and update individualised care plans in line with An Bord Altranais guidelines.
• Administer prescribed medication and document all treatments accurately.
• Provide direct nursing care, health supervision and respond to acute changes in residents’ conditions.
• Report illnesses, arrange GP or specialist visits and ensure timely hand‑overs at shift change.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and communicate effectively with residents, families and the care team.
• Follow health‑and‑safety policies, report hazards and support emergency procedures.

Required profile

• Current registration with An Bord Altranais (registered general nurse).
• Ability to communicate clearly at all levels and work collaboratively.
• Genuine interest in caring for elderly residents.
• Team‑player attitude and willingness to contribute to a positive home atmosphere.

Required skills

• Knowledge of HIQA standards and Irish nursing regulations.
• Competence in medication administration and clinical documentation.
• Experience in assessing care needs and creating care plans.
• Understanding of health‑and‑safety and infection‑control procedures.
