About the role

Newmont is seeking a Structural Engineer for its Lihir operation, one of the world’s largest gold mines located on Niolam Island, Papua New Guinea. This two‑year fixed‑term position focuses on ensuring the safety, reliability and long‑term integrity of mining infrastructure across a diverse portfolio of remediation, maintenance and capital projects.

Key responsibilities

Develop and review structural designs, engineering calculations and technical plans for mining infrastructure and associated facilities.
Conduct inspections, condition assessments and risk evaluations to identify structural issues and recommend practical remediation solutions.
Support the delivery of capital and infrastructure projects from concept through execution, ensuring designs meet operational requirements and industry standards.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, geology and operations to ensure safe and reliable infrastructure.

Required profile

Background in structural engineering with experience in mining or related heavy‑industry environments.
