Director Security Engineering for Blockchain and Digital Solutions

About the role

Mastercard is seeking a Director of Security Engineering to lead the security strategy for its Blockchain and Digital Solutions portfolio. The role will guide a team of engineers, work closely with product and engineering groups, and ensure that cryptocurrency and payment products meet the highest security and compliance standards.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and develop a security engineering team, overseeing career growth, performance and delivery of high‑quality security work.
• Define and mature security engineering processes, standards and scalable practices for blockchain, prepaid and cardholder services.
• Act as a trusted advisor to engineering and business leaders, influencing architecture and security‑by‑design decisions.
• Lead comprehensive security reviews, risk assessments and compliance reporting for new and existing solutions.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading technical security teams delivering secure software, especially in cryptocurrency or blockchain environments.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills to balance risk with business opportunities and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to mentor engineers and foster a culture of security excellence.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of cryptography (symmetric/asymmetric encryption, hashing, digital signatures) and its application in blockchain.
• Understanding of blockchain security principles and industry‑grade security best practices.
• Experience with security protocols, standards and secure software design.
• Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as SOC 2, PCI DSS, DORA and Cyber Risk Institute CRI.
• Expertise in application security, network design, data protection and identity & access management.
