Accountant / Bookkeeper – Finance Function Lead

About the role
Our client, a well‑established electrical contracting business in Dublin, is looking for an experienced Accountant/Bookkeeper to own the finance function. You will work closely with a small office team, managing day‑to‑day finance operations for the main trading company and several investment entities.
Key responsibilities
- Run the accounts department efficiently, handling all financial processes.
- Process weekly and monthly payroll, including new starters, leavers, PAYE and Benefit‑in‑Kind reporting.
- Prepare and submit VAT, PAYE and RCT returns via ROS and manage related payments.
- Produce monthly management accounts and year‑end schedules for external auditors.
- Manage accounts payable, supplier payments, creditor reconciliations and bank/credit‑card statements.
- Liaise with external accountants, customers and suppliers.
- Maintain a fully reconciled accounting system and complete CSO returns.
- Oversee administrative duties such as fleet management and insurance renewals.
- Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and controls.
Required profile
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a comprehensive finance role or as an accountant.
- Highly organised with strong attention to detail.
- Self‑starter capable of working independently and prioritising workload.
- Excellent communication skills for internal and external stakeholder interaction.
