Adult Social Worker – Learning Disabilities

About the role

Our client, Newcastle City Council, is seeking an Adult Social Worker to join their Learning Disabilities team. You will deliver high‑quality social work services to adults with learning disabilities, supporting independence, wellbeing and inclusion in line with the Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act 2005.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct strengths‑based assessments under the Care Act.
• Develop, implement and review person‑centred care and support plans.
• Undertake safeguarding enquiries and investigations.
• Assess and manage risk, promoting positive risk‑taking.
• Carry out Mental Capacity Assessments and Best Interests decisions.
• Support transitions, hospital discharge and community integration.
• Arrange and review commissioned care packages and direct payments.
• Collaborate with health professionals, housing providers, advocacy services and voluntary organisations.
• Maintain accurate, timely and legally compliant case records.
• Manage a complex caseload, prioritising by risk and statutory duties.
• Prepare reports for funding panels, legal proceedings and safeguarding meetings.
• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and provide professional expertise.

Required profile

• Qualified adult social worker, fully registered and able to register with Remedy for locum positions.
• Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS disclosure.
• Commitment to equality, diversity and safeguarding vulnerable adults.
