Assistant Team Leader – Retail (Cheesemonger)

About the role

The Assistant Team Leader supports the Team Leader and Retail Managers in the day‑to‑day operations of the Cornelscourt cheese counter. You will help maximise sales, manage stock, and ensure the highest standards of customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and direct the cheesemonger team: allocate tasks, schedule breaks, monitor work standards and train new members.
• Maintain a positive work environment, fostering teamwork, respect and morale.
• Follow HACCP, cleaning, food‑safety and workplace‑safety procedures; keep all areas clean and tidy.
• Control stock levels, place orders, process deliveries and handle queries from Sales and Warehouse.
• Supervise promotions, tastings and supplier visits.
• Serve customers, addressing queries, complaints, returns and special requests while modelling exceptional service.
• Assist with quality control, manage supplier feedback and communicate quality issues to relevant teams.
• Collaborate with Retail Management and other Team Leaders on daily matters and strategic projects.
• Develop strong relationships with the host store management team and perform ad‑hoc duties as needed.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years experience in a food‑retail environment.
• Excellent knowledge of Irish and European farmhouse cheeses.
• Previous supervisory experience desirable.
• HACCP trained.
• Strong customer‑service and communication skills.
• Organised, calm under pressure and available to work 5 days out of 7.
