Audit Director - Head of Audit Ireland

About the role

Barclays is looking for an Audit Director to lead its Risk and Finance Audit team for Barclays Europe, delivering an independent programme of risk-based audit work. The role sits within the Business Internal Audit (BIA) function and provides leadership support to the BE Chief Internal Auditor in managing and developing the Barclays Europe audit team. It is based in one of Barclays Europe's hubs, preferably Dublin, Ireland or alternatively Paris, France.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, drive and lead delivery of the Risk and Finance audit plan in line with BIA methodology and quality standards, and contribute to the BIA Audit Plan.
• Work with the Risk and Finance functions to build strong stakeholder relationships.
• Assess internal control effectiveness and identify operational risks to support the BIA Audit Plan.
• Communicate key findings and recommendations to stakeholders, including the Audit Owner, senior managers and directors.
• Identify regulatory news and industry trends to give timely insight and recommendations.
• Manage a business function, influencing policy and procedures and leading a large team or sub-function, including resourcing, budgeting and policy creation.
• Act as principal contact and spokesperson for the function, advise senior management and committees, and escalate breaches of policy and procedure.

Required profile

• Deep knowledge of Risk and Finance in financial services, with past experience in risk and controls, preferably in a regulated audit environment.
• Experience of regulatory management in financial services and of building and developing SME teams.
• Proven senior stakeholder management and ability to communicate with senior SMEs.
• Essential: a finance, treasury/capital/liquidity or risk qualification, and a track record of developing a strategy for an internal audit or similar function.
• Desirable: proven audit experience, experience in a global matrix environment, and experience working with UK, European and US regulators.
