Backend Engineer – Scalable Microservices

About the role

We are looking for a Backend Engineer to join a high‑scale, real‑time digital platform serving millions of active users daily. Based in Ireland, you will design and build robust backend systems that power critical product features while ensuring seamless performance under heavy traffic.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain highly scalable microservices supporting millions of daily users.
• Design and implement robust system logic for complex, high‑traffic, transactional applications.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineering teams to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, ensuring adherence to architectural standards and best practices.
• Support production systems by diagnosing and resolving incidents to maintain high availability.
• Contribute to sprint planning, grooming, demos, retrospectives, and mentor junior engineers.
• Work on performance optimisation, reliability and scalability across distributed environments.

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience in backend or software engineering.
• Strong experience building scalable systems in distributed environments.
• Solid knowledge of microservices architecture and RESTful API design.
• Excellent communication skills in English and ability to work independently in a remote‑friendly setting.
