Clinical Secretary (High Speed Typist) – Neurocent Directorate

About the role

The Clinical Secretary will provide high‑quality administrative support to the Neurocent Directorate, ensuring efficient patient registration, booking and correspondence handling. The role involves cross‑cover duties and contributes to the strategic modernisation of referral pathways.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, process and track incoming referral letters, ensuring timely prioritisation.
• Manage patient registration, booking appointments, and maintaining chronological booking order.
• Handle telephone enquiries, defuse conflicts and update contact details.
• Provide clerical support including filing, scanning, photocopying and typing clinical correspondence.
• Assist in planning and coordinating daily operations of the directorate.
• Validate waiting lists, monitor KPIs and support cost‑improvement initiatives.
• Cover for Directorate Nurse Manager, Business Manager and other secretaries as required.

Required profile

• Relevant clerical experience within the HSE or comparable statutory health agency.
• Leaving Certificate with at least Grade D in five subjects including Mathematics and English/Irish, or equivalent third‑level qualification (Level 6 QQI).
• Good character, health and ability to perform duties efficiently.

Required skills

• High‑speed typing proficiency.
• Effective use of email systems (e.g., Outlook).
• Basic office software and document handling (filing, scanning, photocopying).
