Communications Manager

About the role

The Disability Federation of Ireland (DFI) is seeking a Communications Manager to lead its internal and external communications. This purpose‑driven role will shape the federation’s messaging, support advocacy campaigns and enhance engagement with members, stakeholders and the public.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement DFI’s communications strategy.
• Manage internal and external communications across multiple channels.
• Create written, visual and digital content for various audiences.
• Oversee the website, social media platforms, newsletters and CRM communications.
• Support advocacy and awareness initiatives, including budget submissions and Make Way Day.
• Build and maintain relationships with media, stakeholders and member‑organisation communication leads.
• Assist with events, campaigns and member‑engagement activities.
• Monitor analytics and report on communications performance.
• Ensure all communications are accessible, using plain English, alt‑text and captions.
• Provide media and communications support to staff and spokespeople.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of relevant communications experience.
• Excellent writing, storytelling and content‑creation abilities.
• Proven experience with social media, digital communications and analytics.
• Strong stakeholder‑engagement and media‑relations skills.
• Collaborative approach and commitment to accessibility, inclusion and the voluntary sector.
• Experience in a membership organisation, advocacy environment, charity, NGO or public‑facing communications role is highly relevant.
