Community Health Nurse – Public Health Nursing

About the role

The Community Health Nurse will deliver essential public health services, focusing on communicable disease control, mass immunizations, and health education within the community. Working under supervision, the nurse will collaborate with physicians, social agencies, and local health authorities to protect and promote community wellbeing.

Key responsibilities

• Detect health problems through inspections, observations, interviews, and record analysis.
• Interpret and apply public health policies, programs, services, and regulations.
• Assist physicians with child health examinations and immunizations.
• Participate in mass immunization campaigns and tuberculosis control activities, including isolation and quarantine guidance.
• Obtain case histories, administer tests and prescribed medications, and conduct home visits.
• Educate families on isolation techniques and disease prevention.
• Investigate epidemic or reportable diseases, collect cultures and specimens, and coordinate medical and social referrals.
• Maintain accurate clinic, immunization, and health records; prepare reports and statistical data.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (RN) degree.
• Minimum two years experience as a public health nurse in a recognized agency.
• Working knowledge of modern public health nursing principles, general nursing, medicine, nutrition, hygiene, child growth and development, and applicable state and local public health laws.
• Ability to recognize disease symptoms, provide health education, interpret medical findings for the public, and maintain effective relationships with community members and health professionals.
