Controls Engineer – Automation Systems

About the role

AIR Sligo is looking for a dynamic Controls Engineer to join its automation team. You will design, develop and implement complex control systems for cutting‑edge manufacturing equipment, working on innovative projects in a collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Develop concepts and specifications from User Requirement Specifications in partnership with the wider engineering group.
• Design, program, debug and commission machine control software including PLC, HMI, robotics, motion control and vision systems.
• Research, develop and integrate new control technologies.
• Coordinate and manage the controls portion of equipment build, debug and commissioning.
• Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget and to EU documentation standards.
• Liaise with customers on specifications and deliverables, and with suppliers for component procurement.
• Provide technical guidance to junior staff and ensure safety of control systems.

Required profile

• Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience creating machine control systems.
• Proven ability to deliver automation solutions on time.
• Strong communication skills and self‑starter attitude.
• Valid driving licence and willingness to travel as required.

Required skills

• Programming AB ControlLogix and Siemens S7 PLCs.
• Configuring, commissioning and debugging machine networks and drive systems.
• Robotics programming (ABB, Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Epson).
• Machine vision integration (Cognex, Keyence).
• Experience with PLC/HMI, motion control and vision technologies.
