Deli Manager / Chargehand

About the role

The Deli Manager/Chargehand ensures the deli department runs efficiently, delivering high‑quality products and excellent service to customers. You will lead the team, drive sales, manage waste, and uphold food safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare presentation and layout of the deli.
• Drive sales and margin across all key deli areas.
• Manage KPIs such as sales, margin, waste, pricing and promotional displays.
• Implement planograms correctly.
• Minimise waste and shrink in the department.
• Introduce fresh‑food innovation through research and benchmarking.
• Share knowledge, recipes and recommendations with shoppers.
• Train all new deli employees.
• Handle customer queries professionally and in line with store policy.
• Engage with new initiatives and adopt new ways of working.

Required profile

• 2 years experience in a supervisor/manager role (desirable).
• 1 year experience in a fresh‑food focused role (desirable).
• Proven track record of achieving sales targets and KPIs.
• Experience managing gross profit and margins (essential).
• Fully trained in HACCP and food‑safety compliance.
• Experience ordering for deli departments and managing waste.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
• Strong numerical and budgeting abilities.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Passion for the food industry with creativity and innovation.
• Customer‑focused mindset to build a loyal client base.
• Ability to inspire, lead and develop team members.
