Drilling & Blasting Engineer

About the role

The Drilling & Blasting Engineer will ensure safe, efficient and cost‑effective drill‑and‑blast outcomes that support Newmont’s production targets at the Lihir gold mine. Working closely with mining operations, technical services and external contractors, the role focuses on optimizing blasting performance while meeting safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement drill‑and‑blast plans aligned with short‑ and medium‑term mine schedules.
• Monitor blast performance, analyse results and drive continuous‑improvement initiatives.
• Review fragmentation, dilution, vibration and productivity data to optimise practices.
• Provide technical support and recommendations to operational teams and contractors.
• Ensure compliance with site safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
• Support cost‑control initiatives through efficient design and execution.
• Contribute to operational planning and mine optimisation projects.
• Investigate performance issues and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate technical documentation, reports and performance analyses.

Required profile

• Engineering background with experience in drilling and blasting within a mining environment.
• Ability to work collaboratively with operations, technical services and external partners.
• Strong focus on safety, sustainability and regulatory compliance.
