Elderly Care Nurse – Ireland

About the role

The Elderly Care Nurse provides high‑quality nursing care to older patients within Medcare Hospital. Working under the supervision of the Head Nurse or Duty Manager, the role involves direct patient care across general, critical, and specialised units.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver professional nursing care using the Nursing Process, focusing on direct patient interaction.
• Perform systematic initial and ongoing assessments of physical and psychosocial status, tailored to the patient’s age.
• Identify educational and discharge planning needs of patients and families, and coordinate resources.
• Develop, update and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
• Set realistic, culturally‑sensitive goals and select appropriate nursing interventions.
• Maintain infection‑control standards, safety protocols and participate in fire, disaster and mock code drills.
• Utilise hospital computer systems for documentation and communication.
• Provide compassionate, empathetic support to patients and families.

Required profile

• Fluent in written and spoken English.
• Experience in nursing environments in Western Europe, USA, South Africa or Australia.
• Ability to work any shift, including on‑call, in general, critical, operating, labour‑delivery, emergency and clinic settings.
• Strong assessment, planning and collaborative skills.
