Media and Communications Manager

About the role

The Media and Communications Manager supports Bus Éireann’s corporate communications and media strategy, reporting to the Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications. This senior role leads a high‑performing press and corporate communications function and serves as the central point for all media‑relations activity across national and regional levels.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the management of reactive communications with political representatives, media, and other stakeholders, ensuring timely, high‑quality responses.
• Coordinate responses with the Head of Corporate Affairs, the Senior Leadership Team, and operational leaders.
• Develop, implement and continuously improve processes for handling large volumes of media queries, parliamentary questions and stakeholder correspondence.
• Motivate and manage the Corporate Communications team to deliver an effective press office function.
• Deliver proactive external communications aligned with Bus Éireann’s corporate strategy.
• Write, review and approve content across formats such as press releases, social media posts, speeches, opinion pieces, video scripts and campaign materials.
• Prepare briefing materials for senior leaders for media interviews, political engagements, speeches and presentations.
• Lead the drafting and coordination of key corporate publications, including the Annual Report and Sustainability Report.

Required profile

• Experienced communications professional with a proven track record in media relations.
• Strong leadership and management capabilities.
• Ability to work closely with senior executives and political stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Capacity to shape external engagement at national and regional levels.
