Medication Aide

About the role

The Medication Aide assists in the safe administration of oral and topical medications to residents in a healthcare facility, following physician orders and facility policies. Working under the direction of nursing supervisors and the Director of Nursing Services, the role ensures accurate medication delivery and thorough documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Follow all facility policies and procedures governing medication administration.
• Prepare, administer, and document oral and topical medications as ordered by the attending physician or Medical Director.
• Report and document any medication errors, drug receipt errors, or discrepancies promptly.
• Assist in developing and implementing programs to identify and prevent medication errors.
• Complete required administrative forms, charts, and reports related to medication handling.
• Maintain professional relationships with nursing staff, physicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare team members.
• Report resident complaints or grievances to the Director of Nursing Services.
• Participate in facility surveys, quality‑assurance programs, and committee work related to medication safety.
• Verify and document medications brought in by newly admitted residents.
• Follow labeling, charting, and medication destruction policies, including proper documentation.

Required profile

• Ability to follow established nursing standards, policies, and state regulations.
• Strong attention to detail for accurate medication preparation and documentation.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with nursing staff, physicians, pharmacists, and residents.
• Willingness to participate in quality‑assurance and safety initiatives.
• Capability to handle administrative tasks such as completing forms and reports.
