Postdoctoral Researcher – Power Electronics

About the role

The Intelligent Grid research team at the International Energy Research Centre (IERC) within Tyndall National Institute is seeking a Post‑Doctoral Researcher in Electrical Engineering with a specialisation in Power Electronics. The role will support delivery of IERC projects, contribute to bid and proposal activities, and engage with internal and external partners.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical tasks and work packages on multiple IERC projects, guiding junior team members.
• Provide technical and administrative assistance for project coordination, including budget and resource management.
• Assist in developing proposals, technical reports, and publications for conferences and journals.
• Build relationships with industry and research partners to strengthen consortia and expand IERC’s reputation.
• Participate in education, public engagement, and ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.

Required profile

• PhD in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Electronics.
• Experience managing research projects and a proven track record of publications.
• Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with academic and industrial partners.

Required skills

• Power converter design for grid‑connected and off‑grid applications.
• Energy conversion and management of distributed resources in AC, DC, hybrid, and micro‑grid networks.
• Application of artificial intelligence in power electronics and control.
• Hardware experience: converters, hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL), prototype development, and real‑time platforms such as OPAL‑RT.
