Python Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Python Engineer to join a distributed engineering team focused on high‑performance backend applications for advanced genomic analysis and precision healthcare. You will work on scalable web platforms, APIs, and services that serve researchers and healthcare professionals worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Python and Django.
• Enhance core web platforms, APIs, and backend services with a focus on performance and reliability.
• Build, maintain, and optimise RESTful APIs for seamless frontend‑backend communication.
• Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, testing, and performance optimisation.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and domain experts to deliver end‑to‑end features.
• Contribute to deployment, monitoring, operational support and shared on‑call duties.
• Ensure code quality through unit, integration and functional testing following best practices.
• Take ownership of features from design through implementation, testing and delivery.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience developing backend applications with Python, Django and Django REST Framework in production.
• Strong understanding of software design principles, backend architecture and engineering best practices.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
• Solid knowledge of relational databases; experience with MariaDB is a strong advantage.
• Proven ability to implement unit, integration and functional testing.
• Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
• Collaborative, adaptable mindset with willingness to work across multiple technologies.
• Interest in bioinformatics, genomics or healthcare technology is highly valued.
