About the role
The position is a Registrar role in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery based at Cork University Hospital and South Infirmary Victoria University Hospital. The successful candidate will start on Monday 13 July 2026 and will be expected to contribute to the delivery of orthopaedic trauma services across the HSE South West health region.
Key responsibilities
- Provide trauma and orthopaedic surgical care in both hospitals.
- Maintain a detailed logbook of all surgical cases (lead operator, trainer, assistant or observer).
- Participate in on‑call rotas and multidisciplinary team meetings.
- Support teaching activities and contribute to clinical research initiatives.
- Collaborate with the academic partner University College Cork on educational projects.
Required profile
- Fully registered medical doctor with eligibility for a registrar post.
- Completion of basic surgical training and experience in orthopaedic trauma.
- Availability to commence on 13 July 2026.
- Willingness to work within the Cork and Kerry region.
Required skills
- Proficiency in trauma and orthopaedic surgical techniques.
- Ability to document cases accurately in a logbook.
- Familiarity with hospital information systems and clinical documentation.
- Strong clinical judgement and decision‑making in acute settings.
