Research Assistant – Maritime Decarbonisation

About the role

Maynooth University’s School of Business is seeking a Research Assistant to support a Marine Institute‑funded project aimed at achieving carbon neutrality in the Irish maritime industry by 2050. The role combines research, coding, and stakeholder engagement to develop digital compliance solutions for greener ports.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct literature reviews and empirical research on maritime decarbonisation strategies.
• Develop and prototype software tools that translate theoretical models into practical applications.
• Coordinate with ports, shipping companies, policy makers and technology providers to gather requirements.
• Assist in preparing project reports, academic papers and presentations for seminars and meetings.
• Support the search for additional funding opportunities to sustain the project.

Required profile

• Recent graduate or early‑career researcher in Business, Engineering, Environmental Science or a related field.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for stakeholder interaction.

Required skills

• Practical coding experience (any programming language).
• Computational and data‑analysis capabilities.
