Senior Accountant – UK & Germany Reporting

About the role

MathWorks is looking for a Senior Accountant to lead end‑to‑end accounting, statutory reporting and tax compliance for its UK and German legal entities. Based in Galway, the role works in a hybrid model, partnering with local controllers, tax advisors and global finance teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and strong internal controls.

Key responsibilities

• Own monthly, quarterly and annual close activities for the UK and Germany, including journal entries, reconciliations and supporting documentation.
• Prepare statutory financial statements, coordinate external audits and manage tax filings (corporate tax, VAT, statutory returns).
• Ensure compliance with UK GAAP, German HGB and group accounting policies based on IFRS/US GAAP.
• Drive process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency and data quality.
• Stay current with tax law changes and advise management on relevant impacts.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree with 6 years of professional accounting experience (or master’s with 3 years), or equivalent.
• Recognized accounting qualification (ACA, CPA, CIMA, ACCA, Bilanzbuchhalter or equivalent).
• Experience in accounting and statutory reporting for UK and German entities.
• Proven ability to coordinate audits and work with external tax advisors.
• Strong communication skills in a multinational, matrix environment.
