Senior Backend Engineer (New Business)

About the role

You will join a fast‑moving engineering group in Ireland, building and evolving high‑impact backend systems that support both internal operations and client‑facing products. The role sits at the intersection of product engineering and platform development, where scalability, reliability and clean architecture are essential.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain robust backend services primarily using Ruby on Rails.
• Build and enhance distributed systems leveraging Kafka, GraphQL, Docker, Kubernetes and modern cloud infrastructure.
• Collaborate with infrastructure engineers to ensure seamless integration between application code and platform services.
• Write automated tests, conduct code reviews and uphold high engineering standards.
• Participate in system design discussions and define architecture decisions balancing performance, reliability and maintainability.
• Mentor peers and contribute to raising the technical bar across the organization.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional backend or web development experience.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, event‑driven architectures and data modeling with SQL databases.
• Proven ability to solve ambiguous technical problems in fast‑paced environments.
• Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
