Senior Field Assistant – Exploration

About the role

Simberi Gold Limited is seeking two Senior Field Assistants to support exploration activities on Simberi Island, Papua New Guinea. The role is fixed‑term and involves working on a 21/14 roster from various remote fly‑in camps across the country. You will report to the Senior Field Supervisor and help deliver the FY24‑FY27 sulphide drilling programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate, communicate and manage remote exploration camps to ensure timely execution of EL 609 (Tatau and Big Tabar Islands) programmes.
• Supervise local‑hire field teams in trenching, surveying, line clearing, soil sampling and related tasks, providing coaching as needed.
• Capture high‑quality survey data using tape‑and‑compass, handheld GPS and differential GPS techniques.
• Plan and manage logistics, safety and resource use for remote camps, ensuring compliance with internal and external regulations.
• Maintain communications equipment, report issues promptly, and deliver accurate field reports to the Exploration Manager.

Required profile

• Minimum 10 years experience in an exploration field role.
• Strong ability to enforce company policies, lead teams and work safely in remote, steep, tropical environments.
• Fluent in written and spoken English and Pidgin; high physical fitness for long hours in hot weather.
• Demonstrated capability to make short‑term tactical decisions and manage multiple field priorities.

Required skills

• Tape‑and‑compass surveying techniques.
• Handheld GPS and differential GPS (dGPS) operation.
• Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Senior First Aid certification and emergency response procedures for remote sites.
• Knowledge of RC drilling, diamond drilling and trenching methods.
• Remote camp logistics and HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) management.
