Senior Internal Auditor

About the role

Cobalt Recruitment is seeking a Senior Internal Auditor to join a growing financial services assurance team. This permanent, hybrid position offers strong client exposure and the chance to develop expertise across a varied portfolio of financial institutions.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver internal audit and risk assurance assignments for financial services clients.
• Lead audit fieldwork and supervise junior team members.
• Support planning activities, including risk assessments, scoping and audit programmes.
• Assess control design and test operating effectiveness across key processes.
• Produce clear reports with practical findings and recommendations.
• Build relationships with client stakeholders and manage day‑to‑day engagement.
• Contribute to improving audit approaches, templates and internal methodologies.
• Stay current on regulatory expectations and industry developments relevant to financial services.

Required profile

• 2‑5 years experience in internal audit or risk assurance within financial services.
• Exposure to EU or UK regulated environments.
• Working towards or holding ACA, ACCA, CIA, CAMS, CISA or an equivalent qualification.
• Strong communication skills with a high standard of report writing.
• Organised and comfortable managing multiple priorities.
• Proactive mindset with an interest in deepening financial services expertise.
• Experience supervising or mentoring junior colleagues is beneficial.
• Prior consulting or in‑house internal audit experience is a plus.
